5. Posology and Administration

The drug should be taken orally, on an empty stomach. Adults should take it every 12 hours: when the body mass is less than 60 kg -  167 mg of powder or 125 mg in a tablet, 60–74 kg — 250 mg of powder or 200 mg in tablets, more than 75 kg -  375 mg of powder or 300 mg in tablets
In children (over 8 months of age): a dose should be calculated by a doctor in terms of an area of the body’s surface, normally it will be 25–100 mg every 8–12 hours.
In anuria patients (dialysis patients) once a day 1/4 of the total daily dose should be used.

6. Counterindications

Hypersensitivity, unreceptiveness of the body to Didanosine, alcoholism, blood composition disorder obesity, pancreatitis (development of acute pancreatitis, sometimes lethal outcome is possible), gout (it will increase uric acid concentration in blood), the conditions which require limitation of sodium inflow into the body: heart failure, cirrhosis or evidenced compromised liver functions, peripheral edemas and/or stagnancies in the lesser circulation, elevated arterial tension, kidneys failure, toxemia of pregnancy, congenital metabolic imbalance (chewable and dispersed tablets contain from 45 to 67,4 mg of phenylalanine).

11. Pregnancy and Lactation

Didanosine is counterindicated in pregnancy and in toxemia of pregnancy. Breastfeeding in the period of Didanosine therapy is not recommended.
