Acute and chronic psychosis with predomination of productive symptoms and signs (delirium, hallucinations, aggressive states); schizophrenia with negative symptoms and signs (poverty of speech, emotional and social detachment) and other psychotic states, accompanied with affective disorders (worried depression).

5. Posology and Administration

Adults in the beginning of therapy are usually administered 1 mg twice a day. Daily a single-shot dose is to be increased by 1 mg up to the maximal daily dose 8 mg (in 2 intakes). Elderly patients, likewise patients with kidney and liver failure are recommended to start Risperidone administration from 0.5 mg twice a day and then increase it gradually by 0.5 mg up to the maximal single-shot dose 1-2 mg twice a day.

6. Counterindications

Hypersensitivity, pregnancy, lactation period, childhood under 15 years of age.

7. Should Be Taken with Precautions, if…

Special care is needed in patients suffering from cardio-vascular diseases (heart failure, myocardial infarction, asequence, stroke, deaquation), from Parkinson disease, epilepsy.

8. Interface with Other Medications

There have not been done any special studies of drug interaction of Risperidone with other medications. If it is necessary to combine medications you need to consult with your attending doctor.

9. Overdosing

Excess of the maximal daily dose (8 mg) exceeds the risk of the emergence of extrapyramidal disorders.
Symptoms: drowsiness, evidences of sedative performance, tachycardia, arterial hypotension, extrapyramidal symptoms; in rare cases – increase of the QT interval.

10. Side Effects

Sleep disorders, hyperexcitability and unrest, fear and headache. Drowsiness, fatigability, dizziness, attention-deficit disorder, nausea and vomiting, or constipations, pains in stomach, erection, ejaculation, orgasm disorders, rhinitis, and rash are possible. Seldom -  disorders of the voluntary movements in which their evenness and quickness are affected, likewise non-voluntary forced movements, rigidity, hyperkinesias, stomatitis, excessive salivation, impairment of swallowing functions, acute sickliness, which are reversible after the decrease of the dose. In high starting doses there may emerge faintness fits and heart rhythm disorders, excretions from lacteal glands both in men and in women, painful long-lasting menstruations and suppressed menstruation. During the treatment increase of the body mass may be noticed, likewise the edemas provoked by hormonal disorders.

11. Pregnancy and Lactation

It is not recommended to use the drug in pregnancy and during lactation.

12. Driving
