Acarbose prevents absorption of carbohydrates; long-term Acarbose therapy is accompanied with an accurate decrease of vascular atherosclerosis progression.

5. Posology and Administration

Acarbose should be taken directly before meal (or during meal).
The starting dose is 50 mg each 3 times daily. The dose should be slowly (with 4-8 weeks intervals) increased with due account for an individual tolerance. A target dose for an adult with the body mass more than 60 kg is 300 mg/daily in three intakes. The maximal dose is 600 mg/daily.
Acarbose’s effect depends on a dose: the more is a dose the less carbohydrates will laminate and absorb in small intestine. But do not increase a dose by more than 300 mg/daily.
Acarbose treatment should be done under the control of glycated hemoglobin and transaminases in the first year of the treatment – once in 3 months, further on it should be done from time to time.

Hypersensitivity, diabetic ketoacidosis, hepatic cirrhosis; acute and chronic inflammatory bowel disease, aggravated with digestive and absorption upsets, bigger abdominal hernia, intestinal pathology with elevated gas production, ulcer colitis, bowel obstruction (including a partial one or aptitude to it), strictures and stercoral ulcers, chronic kidney failure, pregnancy, lactation period.

Use caution in fever, infection, traumas, surgery interventions, pre- and after surgery periods, age less than 18 лет (safety and efficiency of the use in children are not determined).
Strict observance of a diet is necessary. Drinks and food containing big quantity of carbohydrates and cane sugar may result in peptic disorders.
