Levofloxacin is an antimicrobial drug, of pluripotential antimicrobial action, active against the most stock of microorganisms.
The drug is to be taken orally with food or in intervals between meals, without chewing, to be rinsed with sufficient liquid. Intravenous introductions should be made slowly. In sinusitis – orally 500 mg once daily, in aggravation of chronic bronchitis 250-500 mg once daily. In pneumonia - orally 250-500 mg once-twice daily (0.5-1 g/daily); intravenous - 500 mg once-twice daily. In infections of urinary tracts – orally, 250 mg once daily; intravenous introduction will be in the same dose. In infections of the skin and soft tissues – to be taken orally 250-500 mg once-twice daily; intravenous 500 mg twice daily. After intravenous introduction transfer to oral administration in the same dose is possible. In kidneys diseases a dose is to be lowered in accordance with the measure of compromised function: in CK 20-50 ml/min 125-250 mg once-twice daily, 10-19 ml/min - 125 mg once in 12-48 hours, less than 10 ml/min - 125 mg in 24 or 48 hours. Length of treatment is 7-10 days (up to 14 days).
Hypersensitivity, epilepsy, affection of tendons, pregnancy, lactation period, childhood and adolescence (less than 18 years of age).
The drug should be administered with precaution in elderly patients (high probability of associated nephratonia), in patients suffering from brain affection (insult, severe trauma). If any evidence of tendon inflammation appears Levofloxacin should be cancelled immediately.
If combination of Levofloxacin with other drugs during treatment is needed see your attending doctor for advice.
The most important symptoms (signs) of overdosing of Levofloxacin are manifested on the level of CNS (confusion of consciousness, dizziness, and impairment of consciousness and attacks of ictal convulsions). Moreover, there may be evidenced intestinal disorders (for instance, nausea) and erosive impairments of mucus coatings.
On the part of alimentary system: nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, decrease of appetite, pain in stomach. On the part of cardio-vascular system: decrease of arterial tension, vascular collapse, tachycardia. On the part of metabolism: increase of appetite, high perspiration, and tremor. On the part of nervous system: headache, dizziness, weakness, drowsiness, insomnia, anxiety, fear, hallucinations, confusion of consciousness, depression, motor disturbance, convulsions. On the part of sense organs: disturbances of vision, hearing, smell, gustation and touch sensibility. On the part of locomotor apparatus: pain in joints, muscle weakness, spontaneous pain in muscles, inflammation and tear of tendons.
Application in pregnancy is possible only in cases when an expected therapeutic effect exceeds a potential risk for the fetus (there have not held adequate strictly controlled studies of safety of application in pregnant women).
In the period of treatment caution should be taken while driving vehicles or being involved in other potentially hazardous activities, which require elevated attention concentration and quick psychomotor reactions.
