GRANISETRON
Tablets: 1 mg (1.12 mg as HCl) (Rx) Kytril (GlaxoSmithKline)
Injection: 1 mg/ml (1.12 mg/ml as HCl) (Rx)

Indications
Prevention of nausea and vomiting associated with radiotherapy in patients receiving total body irradiation, single high-dose fraction or daily fractions to the abdomen.
Unlabeled uses:
Acute nausea and vomiting following surgery (1 to 3 mg IV).

Administration and Dosage
IV - The recommended dosage is 10 mcg/kg infused IV over 5 minutes, beginning within 30 minutes before initiation of chemotherapy, and only on the day(s) chemotherapy is given.
Children: The recommended dose in children 2 to 16 years of age is 10 mcg/ kg. Children Elderly, renal, or hepatic function impairment: No dosage adjustment is recommended.
Oral - 2 mg once/day or 1 mg twice/day. In the 2 mg once/day regimen, two 1 mg tablets are given up to 1 hour before chemotherapy. In the 1 mg twice/day regimen, give the first dose up to 1 hour before chemotherapy and the second dose 12 hours after the first. Either regimen is administered only on the day(s) chemotherapy is given. Continued treatment while not on chemotherapy has not been found to be useful.
Radiation (either total body irradiation or fractionated abdominal radiation): 2 mg once/day. Two 1 mg tablets are taken within 1 hour of radiation.
Children: There is no experience with oral granisetron in the prevention of radiation-induced nausea and vomiting in pediatric patients.
Elderly, renal/hepatic function impairment: No dosage adjustment is recommended.
