3. Indications for Use.

4. Action

Ciprofloxacin – is a pluripotential antimicrobial drug. It acts bactericidally both on propogative microorganisms and on ones in a resting phase, it disturbs their DNA and provides their destruction.

5. Posology and Administration

Posology and administration are individual. To be taken orally 250-500 mg twice daily. In specific cases a single dose may be 750 мг, whereas а repetition factor may be 3-4 times. The length of treatment is from 7-10 days up to 4 weeks. The tablets should be swallowed in one piece, on an empty stomach, rinsing them with a small amount of water.
For intravenous administration it is used a single dose 100-200 mg, repetition factor of administration is 2 times daily; the length of treatment is 1-2 weeks, if needed it can be more. The drug may be administered intravenously with stream introduction, but more preferable is drop introduction during 30 minutes.
Eye drops are administered 1-2 drops into a damaged eye (or two eyes) every 4 hours, in severe cases it should be administered every hour. After the conditions have been improved, the intervals between instillations may be increased.

6. Counterindications

Symptoms: nausea, diarrhea, vomiting, dizziness.

For patients suffering from renal dysfunction correction of a dosage regimen is needed. With caution it is administered to elderly patients, in atherosclerosis of brain vessels, stroke, epilepsy, idiopathic convulsion syndrome. During the treatment patients should drink enough liquid. The drug may provoke lowering of reactivity (especially if it is taken at the same time with alcohol). In case of persistent diarrhea the drug should be cancelled.
Eye drops can be used only locally; one should not introduce the drug subconjunctively or directly to the eye’s anterior chamber.

9. Overdosing

Pregnancy, lactation, childhood less than 15 years of age, hypersensitivity to Ciprofloxacin and other components of the drug.

10. Side Effects

Allergic reactions; edema of the face and vocal chords; pain in the stomach, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea; sleep disorders, headache, anxiety feeling, systemic distress; change of the blood picture, perceptual disorder of smell and taste.

11. Pregnancy and Lactation

Ciprofloxacin is prohibited during pregnancy; during the treatment breastfeeding should be cancelled.
